Fenti – baked to perfection
Let’s cut right to the chase – the big Fenti bake-off update! This May we have been spoiled rotten with a plethora of delicious home-baked naughtiness, brought in by our budding Fenti bakers. First, we jackhammered into Ashley’s chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake – the base of which may well have been used by Andy Dufresne to pickaxe his escape from Shawshank State Penitentiary. (Sorry, Ash, at least the topping was delicious!). Next up was Kieron’s Dijon mustard and red onion chutney-filled sausage rolls – both flavours were seriously epic! Finally, we devoured Tom’s sweet and sticky white chocolate blondies; in a matter of seconds, only crumbs remained! It’s probably time we started cycling again; our belts need letting out another notch. Instead, though, for all you content connoisseurs, we’ve been diving deep into the subject of how to write more effectively for your audience. So let us share some of this marketing mastery with you here…
Unlocking the secrets of writing for online audiences: insights from Google’s webinar
If you’ve ever wondered how to transform your online writing from “meh” to magnificent, you’re in for a treat. We’ve distilled the golden nuggets from Google’s insightful webinar, “How to Write for Online Audiences,” into a digestible (and dare we say, delightful) guide. So, grab your favourite cuppa, and let’s dive in!
Know thy audience (because guessing is so last century)
Understanding your audience is paramount. Google emphasises the importance of knowing who you’re writing for and tailoring your content to meet their needs and expectations. By conducting thorough audience research, you can create content that resonates and engages effectively.
Craft headlines that demand attention (no, seriously)
Your headline is the first impression you make. Google suggests that a compelling headline should be clear, concise, and convey the value of the content. Avoid clickbait; instead, focus on delivering what the reader can expect from the article.
Structure content for scannability (because who has time to read everything?)
Online readers often skim content. To accommodate this, Google advises breaking up text with subheadings, bullet points, and short paragraphs. This structure makes it easier for readers to find the information they’re looking for quickly.
Write in a conversational tone (no one likes a robot)
Engage your readers by writing in a conversational tone. Google highlights that using a friendly and approachable voice can make your content more relatable and enjoyable to read. Remember, you’re writing for humans, not machines.
Use visuals to enhance understanding (a picture is worth a thousand words)
Incorporating visuals like images, infographics, and videos can help clarify complex information and keep readers engaged. Google points out that well-chosen visuals can complement your text and provide a richer user experience.

Optimise for SEO without sacrificing quality (because Google is always watching)
While it’s important to optimise your content for search engines, Google advises against keyword stuffing. Instead, focus on creating high-quality content that naturally incorporates relevant keywords. This approach ensures your content is both discoverable and valuable to readers.
Encourage interaction and feedback (because two heads are better than one)
Engaging with your audience through comments, polls, and feedback requests can provide valuable insights and foster a sense of community. Google suggests actively encouraging interaction to build stronger connections with your readers.
Keep it concise and focused (because nobody’s got time for fluff)
Online readers appreciate brevity. Google recommends keeping your content concise and to the point, ensuring that every sentence adds value. Avoid unnecessary jargon and filler to maintain reader interest.
Ensure mobile-friendliness (because everyone’s on their phones)
With an increasing number of users accessing content via mobile devices, Google stresses the importance of ensuring your content is mobile-friendly. This includes using responsive design and optimising load times to enhance the user experience.
Regularly update content (because stale is so last season)
To maintain relevance and authority, Google advises regularly updating your content. This practice ensures that your information remains accurate and reflects the latest trends and developments in your field.
